Group Behaviour

Our Correspondent and our Principal at our High school always cautioned us in the pre-departure seminar's that we used to have regarding our behaviour and the way in which we were supposed to conduct ourselves during excursions.
The reason? We tend to forget ourselves when we are in a group, as in, we fail to understand the instructions being given, neglect our responsibilities, or take all the rules and regulations for granted because when you do that you become "THE DUDE", or "THE COOL GUY".

I love to observe people when they are in certain totally unexpected situations. For example, it's a typical day at college-some of the first benches are not occupied(for those of you who are privileged of not having studied in our dept, this might seem normal to you, but it's considered almost a crime to leave ANY of the front benches unoccupied), the "head" walks into the class, and the first thing "it" does is to take action on the last benchers. So, at this point of time, when the "head" walks into the class, a "clever" guy slowly sneaks into any of the other benches.....!!!

A quote needs to be mentioned here. I do not remember the exact words, but the quote goes something like this...."You can judge a man by the way he carries himself when he is alone".
And another supporting quote- "Conduct is what you are when nobody is watching you".

So damn true !

Much of the observations that I have made is that in a group of individuals, a "target" is selected and is bombarded upon. The ones weak in communicating who somehow become lucky by not getting to be the target find this an excellent oppurtunity to make maximum bombardments on the "target". Well there are cases when the "target" makes a fool of himself ( I do not know about the female groups, havent studied them much..ah ha ha..!!! ), in such cases it is justice that he get all the firings. In certain other situations, there are certain sadistic "superior" bastards who try to pull down another one who currently does not match his "level"( Gosh, I just hate such kind of bastards ) by shifting to a topic that is relevant only to the the "target", so as to escape from being bombarded.

There are many other ways in which the "target" is chosen in the group. But that is not relevant here. The point is:
* People tend to forget their true self when they are in a group.
* Attitudes of "superior" sadistic bastards.

Its fun watching people's reactions in different situations. And mind you, someone could be watching you the same way as you do.
